Waiting in queue at Starbucks

this a.m. and it dawned on me that it's probably an unhealthy practice to drive in the dark, rainy morning before having caffeine. Yet there I was with many others, waiting for the blessed infusion of that vitamin into my yet drowsy system.

And think of it. Starbucks in several locations, with long lines of cars outside and people inside, serving up energy and alertness in paper cups. Multiply that by the numbers of folk at the c-stores, McDonald's, Hardee's, bagel shops, etc. Wonder why there aren't more smashed up vehicles and sad and bewildered people along the road sides.

Maybe there should be a charge on the books for driving NOT under the influence of substances that awaken you. Wait. That could probably get complicated; never mind.

With the pending change back to EST, how dark will it be each morning? and again in the evening going home? Public safety would be enhanced, no doubt, if work days were shortened to daylight hours, meaning actual light in the sky from a risen sun. I could see a labor movement evolving from this.

Later as I searched for a phone number in the yellow pages under physicians, I noticed under the heading 'urology' a listing for a psychiatric practice. There's a joke there somewhere, but I can't get my brain around it. Of course, we all know the foot bone's connected to the ankle bone, and so on up to the top of the head I suppose. It's all part of the whole; but since we separate the parts into specialties, they usually aren't connected in treatment. Maybe it's simple human error, but it's an interesting sort of cross reference. A stab at wholistic practice? Yeah, probably not.
