It was an interesting week end

in my part of the world. The troublesome tree in the side yard is down, leaving a large stump (that could play a part in a future garden) and a stack of wood that could supply a fireplace in couple of years. I did get a piece of trunk to use as part of table in backyard; just need to create a base and a table top. In my simplistic way of thinking that should not be difficult; but I realize expectation and implementation often don't merge.

Completed painting the second-hand day bed I acquired AND I even painted the rusty places on chain-link fence around backyard. Feeling quite productive, thank you very much. My ol' back and hips complained, with good reason, but survived it all.

The weather was so perfect even I enjoyed being outside. There's not much of the country left in me, even though you supposedly can't take it all away. I like being inside, probably because I have spent most of my life living in urban settings and often in apartments, even though early life was not in cities. Having spent 19 years in this house, though, the yard has been a large part of my world. It's pretty hard to ignore a suburban yard, even if you're weak-willed and lazy like me.

Anyway, the physical activity of the week end encourages me to continue. Next on the agenda is creating and re-creating flower beds. Modest flower beds to enhance curb appeal and just make my world more pleasant. Another case where reality may not match imagination, but any improvement to the appearance of this plain old yard will be positive. And, Martha will not be helping, nor even providing inspiration. My preferences will be simpler and, I'm pretty sure, easier. It's still a good thing.
