Was looking for new mattress and

decided on one advertised at Walmart.com. Not where I started looking, but since the site came up in my Google quest, I looked at the offerings.

These items come boxed (how do you deliver a mattress via shipping service?) and have to be unwrapped.  It was a totally new experience for me, and I'm OK with the product and the delivery.

Ordered queen size and it came in a box that was approximately 18-inches square and three feet long. Yes, I'm serious. This mattress (a bottom layer of small tight coils and top layer of memory foam) was folded in half length ways and then rolled into a neat bundle and stuffed into that box.

When it arrived, I wondered if they'd shipped the right thing; the shipping docs indicated it was the queen mattress I requested so I opened the box and pulled it out.

Of course, it was bound in a roll and had to be put on the bed frame (another interesting item), unbound and allowed to straighten out and expand. And expand it did as soon as I snipped at the strips holding it together.  There were 'swishing' sounds as it took in air and shortly was unrolling itself, unfolding in the middle and laying itself out.

OF course, I had managed to lay it on the frame in a position from which it was laying coil-side up. T'wasn't fun getting it flipped over, but much less trouble than flipping or moving my older mattress. Shortly the new one was wider and thicker and soft enough to lay on.

I actually followed instructions and left it in its plastic wrapper for a while. When I returned later in the day to de-bag it and dress it with linens, I was quite pleased to find it easy to make up and comfortable to lay on.  It appears I'm sleeping well (when I actually go to sleep--but that's another issue).

My daughter, who comes to my house when she's sleepy so she can take a nap (apparently her bed is not comfortable for mid-day napping), says she finds it quite comfortable. How nice; wouldn't want her to feel she had to use my guest bed, or maybe nap at home.

But, nevertheless, that also demonstrates that this mattress was worth buying. AND I have a new bed (the mattress and the bed frame eliminate the need for box springs) for less than $300.

It feels quite good to make choices, act upon them, and have the satisfaction of having it all work. Yes, it does.

AND, the final test: the dogs find it comfortable and inviting. Penny has left my lap a few times and gone to nap on my bed. She's such a dear.
