and I wonder what I might post here. I'm not doing anything noteworthy. Managed this week end to pick up love seat I'd purchased several weeks ago. Decided I'd rent truck and go get it since I needed to move some other stuff, too.
Sort of killing several birds with same stone. Delivery charges would've applied so it seemed rational. And it worked out, but not without cost. Truck wasn't very pricey, but I used up some deposits in my human/neighbor/friend account. Maybe I actually borrowed some value not yet paid.
When you get someone to literally do the heavy lifting, you have to account for yourself. So here's my version. I wanted this new love seat; as result I was returning love seat from A & D I'd been using. When I got the one from them, I figured I'd use it a long time; then I found this new one. Well, you see there was a change and adjustments were required.
At the same time, A & I determined to trade some other pieces; she was getting the two pieces from my dining room that matched a piece she had already acquired from my basement. I was getting the piece from their office/spare room. It was a way for both of us to get something 'new' or at least different and change how we were doing things.
The piece I got from them that is now in my dining room matches piece in my living room I got from them a while back. Man! I'm getting dizzy trying to straighten out what was going where.
Anyway, by Saturday p.m. I had participated in (but had done little of the labor) in moving one piece into my house; move three pieces from house to truck; move those three pieces from truck into A & D's house after moving piece I was taking back with me into truck and moving a piece in their living room into spare room to make space for the love seat returning.
Again, I'm dizzy. If you're confused, don't worry about it. Bottom line is six pieces of furniture were moved from one place to another. Two of them coming to my house; three of them leaving my house and the last one just changing rooms. Guess we've had enough of this discussion.
Here's the clincher: if my kind neighbor had not been willing to assist me (without being asked!) little would have happened at my place. If D hadn't helped me unload and reload at their place, nothing would've come back to my place.
The entire thing sounds like a comedy of errors; however, things got done and done well and no one was injured. I have some sore muscles; I bet D does, too. Neighbor's so young, strong and able-bodied (why is it the thin ones are always in better condition?) that he may not be sore.
Rosey called in a friend of hers to help us in the final stage because the piece going into my dining room is tall, broad and heavy. Rosey, me and the neighbor couldn't heft it up the stairs from the foyer. Another person from whom I received unearned assistance. For her labor she received a pan of homemade whole wheat rolls. The single thing of some value I can do.
For the neighbor's largess (and serious labor) I will prepare a complete dinner. Hopefully, this dinner will occur next week end; but as soon as they are available to sit down to dinner and I can get it fixed. I'm going to make it as good a dinner as I can.
I could've hired someone for all this work but that would've cost me more money than I spent on the truck, plus any cost of foods, etc. However, I think maybe I better hire it done next time.
If there's a next time, that is. I may just leave all as is until I'm the one carried out. Maybe it's enough already.
