One pretty good indicator that

you're aging is being able to use a phrase such as, "when I read this book about 50 years ago." I did just that one day last week in brief discussion regarding The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. It was a short while after that conversation that it dawned on me what I'd said and that it was simply a factual statement, not one of my exaggerations used for emphasis. People familiar with my peculiarities know that I will say "about a hundred years ago," which means quite a while back and acknowledging that I've been around a while.

But this time I was just being truthful. And there it is; I'm discussing things that I encountered in high school and it was half a century ago! I'm beginning to really appreciate the folksy, "every day above ground is a good day."

When I early voted last week, the cheerful pole worker that greeted me got right into being old and still being able to function. And I really connected, since I am no longer an on-looker without knowledge of the experience. When he said, "Hey, I woke up this morning," I could nod and say, "Yeah."

Had some folks in Sunday evening (using the Oscars as the excuse) for a pot-luck type thing. Two of the ladies are retired and spent some time getting acquainted and discussing things. I need to spend more time with them 'cause they have some information I will need.

Another guest and I commiserated on still being in the workforce, but I know when I'm going to the house, and she hasn't made that decision yet.  Two other guests (my very nice neighbor couple) mentioned the daily challenges of work, home, kids, etc. AND most of us know that grind. Truth be told, I'll take it from here on out.  I certainly can't do that stuff any more (How do grandparents raising young kids do it?!) but I can enjoy what life is right now.

Thank God my life is okay even though I ain't no spring chicken any more.
