With a week that included

holiday planning and preparations as well as a colonoscopy, it was not boring. There are things you do only because you should; that would be the category for a colonoscopy.

My daughter lost a friend about a year ago to colon cancer. She had never had an exam that would detect a problem until the problem was too big to fix. The preparation for the test and the procedure are quite uncomfortable. Cancer would be much worse; so, while I hated the entire episode, I'll do it again in five years unless something causes us to do it sooner.

The other part of the week was so much more pleasant.

Friday I shopped for fixings for Saturday night visitors and began preparing dishes for Saturday's dinner. Then Friday evening I made it to the KSO Pops Xmas concert, which I feared I might need to forgo. A nice show. Good instrumental and vocal performances. There's a bunch of talent in K'ville.

Saturday was busy because I was preparing food and taking care of last minute details. But what fun it was. Seems everyone enjoyed the food and visiting. I had written the invitation for 'dinner and a movie', meaning to offer a Xmas DVD for viewing. But we sat around and talked and laughed and I never thought about the film.

What a fine evening it was, having friends gathered. I know some bright, funny, fun-loving people and they did not disappoint me. Haven't had that sort of gathering in quite a while; this was part of my journey back to being and doing what I want.

Sunday evening neighbors came over for repast as they had a conflict on Saturday night. Again, although quieter than Saturday had been, it was very nice. It's so wonderful to know nice people with whom you can enjoy conversation and learn from each other.

On Sunday, since a younger family member was present, we watched an animated version of A Christmas Carol. A nice rendition (with considerably more 'action' than other versions I've seen) with voices by Jim Carrey, Colin Firth et al.  How nice it was to share the film with someone else. I watch quite a few DVD's with my dogs (who don't seem to pay much attention) and that's fine. But it is nice to share.

So as my blessings pile up, I am reminded of earlier years when we had much less 'stuff' and had more worries. There are still plenty of problems among the people who joined me this week end; it's life after all. I wish for all those good people the blessing of peace and knowledge problems can be solved and life can be really good.
