Last week was a time of self-indulgence and real pleasure

although none of it was out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, I'm all too familiar with eating and drinking too much. I should say, however, that much of the food was healthy and balanced and I did not eat myself into a coma.

Wonderful visit with friend in Stone Mtn, visiting, resting, eating, visting, eating, resting, and some time out and about. Saw production of Sedaris' Santaland Diaries based on his material about being a Macy's Christmas elf. Apparently all is not jolly and pleasant at the North Pole, no matter the PR about it, but it's funny to watch.

Had my first experience with Ethiopian food; 'twas quite good and nothing (at least that we ordered) was weird. Just grains and veggies, some shrimp on the side. One of the pleasures of city living, that is of a certain size, is the variety of experiences available.

Then Sunday a.m. before I left, we broke the fast at a place called Hickory House, where the motto is 'put some south in your mouth'. And is it yummy! A good parting gesture to a week end of good food and fun. Typical southern food fixed very well. Good that I don't live near by. It's very much better than Cracker Barrel, a place I'm fond of and attend too much, though not really frequently. At HH you could overeat with little effort, except lifting the fork because the food is so good you just want more.

I always have a good time visiting JM and feel I have spread those visits out too far apart. Hopefully, we'll make that trip to the home town in the spring. And I intend to return to Hotlanta before next fall.

And, of course, before you turn around twice Xmas will be here and gone. Time marches on as anyone of a certain age could tell you from experience.
