happening. Now I'm working (well, not actually working, but looking into) three (3!) trips.
Kids want to go to Outer Banks for Xmas; they're putting that together (I think, no information coming my way yet). Yeah, they could go without me but I was invited, I think.
One friend and I have talked several times (casually, not in anyway planning) of going to White Sulphur Springs, WVa to visit the Greenbriar. It is the site of a now-well-known hiding place for government officials in event of national crisis, or some type attack. Plus the hotel itself is supposedly grand. Pretty sure we're NOT staying there, but hopefully near by. Seems three nights at the Greenbriar would cost over $1,000. Not exactly in my price range.
Another friend and I have spoken of going to our home town for walk down memory lane, actually to see what it's like now. Our preference would be to stay at the Hotel Roanoke (in the Star City of the South!), a historic site restored or maintained in its former glory. I've been in it, but have never stayed there. But, again, it's probably too pricey for us working folk. Again, looking for somewhere decent but less expensive.
I like traveling, but within some personal parameters. Don't like flying and the high cost and trouble associated with flying is convincing me I am absolutely right. I'm trying to figure out how I'll get to England (a place I'd really like to visit) if I don't fly. But that's in the future; I'll worry about that later.
I'd like to take a train trip, but that is not convenient to my current location. Maybe on my next trip to NYC (where I see theater, visit Oliver and wife, and shop!!!!) I can take train from NC.
I really like driving; I mean actually do the driving. One of my travel buddies likes bus trips/tours and urges me to go with her some time. I'd like to go to the places, but I don't want to be with bus full of other folk. Guess I'm not friendly and I really want to control the trip more.
Someday, maybe, I can travel out west since I've seen only Vegas and Grand Canyon. I'd like to re-visit New England, where we lived many years ago. And, I'd like to see Chicago again.
I can see that retirement is not going to be cheap. More reason for that parttime job I've illuded to.
