I have no doubt most of us understand

the meaning of this word, whether we knew the word or not. Consider: unctuous; an adjective meaning fatty or oily, or insincerely smooth in speech and manner. The first is known to someone who cooks, or someone who repairs machinery. If you have handled a lubricant, you recognize it.

But for the second meaning, think slime. The guy who wants to fix your car (where it ain't broke) or the co-worker who oozes with sweetness and you just don't believe it. Yes, I'm stating the obvious. But I like having a word that sums it all up so nicely. Now I just need a chance to use it.
