How many hints does it take for a mostly healthy

woman before she understands that she could slip so easily into that middle-aged, worn-out, over-the-hill, in big trouble with the doctor scenario. I don't know, but I've had several.

My GP sent me to a cardiologist because of some complaints I had. Cardiologist did many tests and the results were wonderfully encouraging: no blockage, no damage, some thickening of the cardio wall and very minor leaking valve. Evidently lots of people have leaky valves and they can be monitored and don't require intervention unless they get worse. AND, evidently, one can restore some resiliency to the ol' heart muscle by improving blood pressure and getting more exercise.

Gee, improve my diet and exercise more and my heart will remain healthy? If I'd only known; how my life would've changed. Sure. I have this theory about change: we change because we HAVE to, not because we should. At least as far as important change is, not hair color, or hair cut, or type car we drive, or the type mayo we buy. The serious stuff, like getting out of or staying in a miserable relationship, or getting a job that pays a living wage, or finally getting the training we need for the better job.

And, of course, we're winding down another year and it'll soon be time to resolve what to change so life will be better. That list will develop soon, but I've got a few ideas right now about what should be on it. And those annual resolutions are so vital for making those big changes. Sure.
