and the films he blessed. Once again I've not seen majority of winners: Hurt Locker, Blind Side, Precious, et al. Can vouch for Bridges' performance in Crazy Heart; Oscar was deserved.
I was pulling for Colin Firth to win for A Single Man because his performance was really good and I'm crazy about him. Too bad a really good film had so much to compete with; only one person can be THE BEST and he may not get another chance soon.
Nominees and winners are moving away from the front line so I can get them all from Netflix with less wait than previously. Eventually I'll see them and can form my own opinions, sans Oscar's.
Watched a film with a friend at her home the other evening, My One and Only. This had escaped my attention; had simply not heard of it. Produced by George Hamilton and based on his early life, it was surprisingly good. Not that Renee Zellweger and Kevin Bacon wouldn't have made a good film, just that this one seems to have been released without publicity so we had no expectations and were pleased to learn its merit.
Still haven't read book from the last two club meetings: The Commitment by Elizabeth Gilbert. I'm on a waiting list at the library and my name will come up eventually. I'm guessing it's pretty good; it's certainly pretty popular.
Did get a copy of April's title, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. Interesting title. At least I'll get this one read before we discuss it. Good thing about a book club, I read books I might not select otherwise. And it's much more fun than English class.
