consistent. Some years I see few movies in theaters, and always catch the Oscar nominees later when they're either winners or losers. Some years I see many; this year is one of seeing many.
I'm even catching quite a few of 31 Days of Oscar on TCM. Interesting to see what films won in the past; can't say that I agree with all. Oscar questions even made it to Jeopardy this week. And I didn't know the answer; but I've said for quite a while now that I've forgotten more than I've known.
Looking at prior year winners sheds light on cultural trends. Personally I like the old musicals that garnered such praise. 42nd Street is an all-time favorite; in 2010 it's quaint, but I still like the singing and dancing, whether the script holds up or not. My love of the genre is why I enjoyed the film version of Chicago very much. It certainly was wonderful to see a musical in a theater again.
But now that's years ago, too. Grit and reality are more prevalent. I'm very happy that my reality is not the reality of many film characters I've encountered. I do well to cope with my own.
Birthdays loom: Male child, Oliver, will be 39 next week. This is when parents notice they're getting older. Girl child, Rosey, was 40 last summer. Time marches on.
AND I'll be 50-15 in couple of weeks. That's my story and I'm sticking to it; pay no attention to that driver's license.
