Funny in a way, but mostly odd

that I chose to ignore House last night and watch a movie that arrived in the mailbox. As much as I really like Hugh Laurie, his series has run its course (in my opinion) and needs to go. I said for sometime I'd see it to the bitter end and this appears to be the end for me.

The show and its title character have moved into stranger and stranger waters and premises have become untenable. Even allowing for dramatization and artistic license, this guy shouldn't have gone on to such extents of bizarre behavior.

Anyway, having lost my interest in strange medical and mental issues, I turned to the movie. AND, it was the HBO film You Don't Know Jack about Kevorkian. Is that ironic or what? Turning from one strangely driven MD to another.

A friend recommended the movie because of Al Pacino's performance. And she was so right. He crawled inside that role and brought the doctor to life (interesting, considering the business at hand).

Don't watch this movie if you're dealing with life and death issues, whether yours or someone else's; it's too real and vivid. But, in my opinion, not offensive.

But do watch this movie if you're interested in the right-to-die, death with dignity or, bluntly, euthanasia issue because it's the main character and the heart of the story. And it's not cut and dried or simple. It's much too critical a decision when someone is faced with end of life questions to say it is.

And, you know, I don't know what I'd do if faced with living in terrible physical health, submitting to draconian treatments, misery and pain. Life is precious, but at what point is it terrible and no longer viable? Maybe the patient should be allowed to decide.
