As the beneficiary of some good medical

care and modern technology, I can attest to the benefit of good health insurance. It ain't cheap, but then being sick is costly, one way or the other. I had sleep study done last week and was immediately put on a CPAP machine, one of those gizmos that forces air into your airway and keeps you breathing. I think breathing's fairly important, and am glad that I still am.

Took the thing on my visit to Atlanta (well, it's really the Stone Mtn area, but Atlanta's easier to say and explain) since I should sleep with it every night. Once you set the thing up, it's not complicated so it wasn't a big deal. The thing is, my allergies have gone sky-high, over the moon, through the roof, whatever analogy you like and have been driving me crazy. I believe, in addition to fall allergies being bad this year, that this new-fang equipment is making my allergic reactions worse.

SO, yes I am breathing throughout the night (which was not the case according to the sleep study) but I think I'm taking in a lot of allergans, too. Not arguing this with the doctor 'cause I need the machine and just have to deal with this side effect. Of course, when folk are watching in horror as I sneeze, cough, spew and hack, it is more than annoying for everyone. I use nasal spray and tablets to reduce the effects; cannot imagine how bad it could be without the help.

My canine roomies have not taken well to the machine; they run away when I start putting stuff across my head and over my face. Not sure if they think it'll hurt me or them, but they're not waiting to find out. Then during the night, they apparently skulk into the bedroom and get on to the bed near me, but away from the 'thing'. One night I was settling back down after a bathroom visit and was awake to see the chihuahua get on the bed and approach me on her belly, head down as if she needed to sneak in so the 'thing' wouldn't see her. At least, that's certainly what it looks like.

I have an image of the two dogs sitting in the living room worrying over whether it's safe to go to the bedroom and how they should go in, if they do. One or both have stayed in the living room several nights, waiting for me to get up and away from the machine in the morning. Wonder if they'll get use to this invasion and adjust.

The Stone Mtn trip was so nice; always good to have time with a cherished friend. Dinner Sat nite with other friends (actually her friends and people I've had the pleasure to become acquainted with). Was quite nice to talk and laugh with knowledgeable, intelligent folk, about all kinds of stuff. Good food and good fellowship certainly made it a fine night.

Then friend and I visited the lovely gardens in Atlanta on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Fresh air and exercise as we strolled through various sections and displays. The walk through the tree tops (yep, it is just about that on ingeniously engineered walkways) is unique and quite pleasant. Then in the evening we settled down to discussing our December plans to visit Savannah for Christmas. Arrangements are made and planning is on going. Really looking forward to another fine venture.
