impossible not to miss her. People laughed, cried, nodded knowingly as individuals spoke of the mother, sister, aunt, friend and co-worker they'd lost.
Yes, we were sad, but it's wonderful to laugh as you tell hilarious events you shared with someone. I may have known her the least amount of time, but I have good memories and significant impressions of one hell of a woman.
I was pleased to be included and to hear others' stories and memories. We'll be remembering her and commenting on those thoughts for years to come. It's these friendships that sustain us.
It took an event of such importance to get me out of the house. Last week's icy, snowy cold weather kept me at home, hunkered down with a book, a movie and three dogs who really wanted to cuddle.
Each night last week was truly a 'three-dog night' and my girls didn't disappoint as we huddled under quilts. I even turned the thermostat up two degrees (well, one must still be diligent and responsible); maybe it's the power of suggestion, but I felt more comfortable.
And, the silly Chihuahua who shivers all the time will NOT wear a jacket or sweater. She can't seem to see one as a benefit, but appears to feel it's some sort of punishment. And she can get one off quickly without assistance. Seems to be a lost cause; well, she'll just have to be cold. Of course, she can curl up under a blanket quite effectively, so maybe she just doesn't need an additional wrap.
Was interesting at book club to find out who read, or did not read, the January selection. Water for Elephants was a good read, I thought. Hopefully, the ones who had not finished reading it will be able to. 'twas a good evening; always lots of laughs. There's nothing as rewarding as conversation among intelligent women.
